TWO MEN TRAPPED IN WOMEN’S BODIES

by Michael Wanzie

Winner: Favorite Fringe Show 1998 – Peoples Choice Award

Two gay men attempt to come to terms with the untimely deaths of their hippie activist mothers as they struggle to forgive them for their unconventional parenting.

In Wanzie's “Two Men Trapped in Women's Bodies" much of the humor comes from Wanzie's zippy dialogue: "Even in death, she's melodramatic and manipulative.” Although [the actors] start the show as male characters, the bulk of the play is a series of flashbacks in which they play those characters' mothers. The transformations are part of the fun, and it takes no time at all to believe we're watching women. Silliness abounds, but in Wanzie fashion, when he decides to go for genuine emotion, watch out. - Orlando Sentinel
